DMV Short Film Festival Announced for 2022, Submissions Open for DMV Filmmakers
1939 Studios is bringing a short film festival to DMV. The DMV has had a lack of festivals that celebrate Black filmmakers. 1939 Studios wanted to create a space where new and upcoming Black filmmakers can have access to showcase their work. The production company is accepting submissions until March 19 for their inaugural DMV Short Film Festival. If you have a story to tell, now is the time!
1939 was founded in May 2020 by filmmaker and actress Shalom Omo-Osagie with the mission to be able to tell Black stories through the eyes and from the mouths of Black artists. The studio has produced two short films, Dantae’s Inferno and Miami Indie Film Award-winner for Best Directors and Best Actress Tale of Tarot, setting forth their goals to uplift Black storylines and create opportunities for Black screenwriters, actors, directors, producers, and production crew.
The festival will take place virtually on 1939’s website from May 11 through May 13 followed by an in-person award ceremony at Crown & Crow in NW Washington, DC on May 14. All submitted films will be displayed on 1939 Studios’ website for viewers to vote.
