I Think We Can All Agree USEE4YOURSELF Is a Dime
IDK came with it in his early days, but with his latest project USEE4YOURSELF, you can tell the rising king has elevated to a far higher level. He is not just delivering clever bars on delicately mastered beats but is also conveying storytelling and intimacy that gives off true g.o.a.t vibes. It's safe to say that USEE4YOURSELF is officially IDK going Super Saiyan mode.
The album starts off with a gameboy-type ding, and then your ears are blessed with beautiful harmonic vocals that let you know you are in for a musical experience. You can picture IDK running as you listen to him huff and puff as the first track comes to an end and leaves you with a message about sacrifice. Then BOOM, here comes Santa Monica Blvd, where he starts off by saying, “I’m switching up my energy, f*ck my enemies.”Let me tell you, after listening to this album from top to bottom, his enemies definitely felt that line to the core.
The album is perfectly cohesive and paints a very compelling picture of the greatness IDK was born to be and is growing into. Some of my personal favorites on the album are Shoot My Shot, which was the leading single of the project that featured Migos member Offset. It's a perfect hype song that keeps your head bopping and your mind absorbed in the clever bars and catchy melodies. It’s the perfect track to work out to, and motivate you to keep pushing toward goals, or just have some fun. Another highlight would be RED, which features Westside Gun, the late legendary rapper MF DOOM and Jay Elcectronica. (Produced by Blue Rondo and IDK) IDK definitely holds his own on this track while stepping with these hip-hop giants bar for bar.
Another one of my favorites is Hey Auntie, where IDK opens up about not receiving much love in his home and reflects on what his life may have been if he did have love at home. (The track also features hip hop legend Slick Rick), With vivid lyricism married over beautiful playing of keys and strings, he opens up his scars and shares himself on a deeper level with listeners. Perhaps one of my personal favorite verses in the song says: “The road to healin’ stuck in rush hour like I’m Soo-Yung.” That’s real.
If you haven’t already, go listen to IDK’s USEE4YOURSELF.
