#NuMusic: Ayotemi & Kassim, “Watch Me Do”

Anyone keeping tabs on the DMV’s encouraging musical talent will have already tapped into these two high and dry artists coming out of Maryland. This week’s #NuMusic Friday features Ayotemi and Kassim’s triumphant track, “Watch Me Do.” Dropped on Thanksgiving day, the new single delivers upbeat melodies and rhythm that insists you dance from the song’s outset. This is the duo’s first collaboration, with both artists punctuated by eminent solo careers.

It’s already hard not to start swaying at the start of the song’s harmonic uptempo beat, but with lyrics that openly affirm about manifesting the sweet life, this track is certainly one that unloosens you into a winsome groove–albeit maybe vicariously through each artist’s verses.

Ayotemi, who reached 656,000+ streams on Spotify this year, tells NUNAR that this track holds an uplifting message for a rising generation. “With this record, we wanted to honor the youthfulness of our spirits and to remind people to free their minds,” he tells NUNAR. 20nvr member Kassim, who performed with the music collective at this year’s annual Inner Circle show hosted by rapper O-Slice, posted on Instagram in late November a promo video that described the track as “the positive push we all need.”

Be sure to stream this song on all streaming platforms and watch the music video, shot by OJ Visuals.
